New Officer Testing Information Sheet
July 19, 2010
Dear Applicant,
Welcome to the Midvale Police Department application and testing process. This sheet will explain the process and the dates and times of the testing phases.
General Information:
There are currently no police officer positions open. We are forming a hiring list in anticipation of having some police officer positions available in the future. We are not hiring reserve officers and we do not have a reserve officer program.
To be eligible to test you must be a United States Citizen, hold a valid Utah driver’s license and be LEO (Level II) Peace Officer certified. Your application must be turned in no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010. With your application you must include a cover letter, resume and proof of your LEO (Level II) Peace Officer Certification. You may not test if you are not currently certified (or certifiable) by the application closing date.
Qualified applicants must pass a physical fitness test. The applicants with passing scores will be eligible to move on to the oral interview phase and will be notified of the date and time of the interview. The interview process is a series of questions scored by an interview board. The applicants will be ranked in order of their scores. Applicants must pass the interview process with a score of 75% or higher. An in-depth background process will then begin starting with the top applicants. An applicant passing the background test will be required to pass a drug screen test, a psychological test, and an interview with the Chief of Police.
Hiring List
After testing, a hiring list is formed. The Chief may choose any candidate(s) on the list, or none. The list can be added to or dissolved at any time. A new testing process may be conducted and a new hiring list may be created at any time, based on need.
Physical Fitness Test
The physical fitness test is job-related, task-specific test that requires some running on flat ground and stairs, agility over low and high obstacles, lifting and pulling of heavy objects. It is a timed test and must be completed within the allotted time. You should wear workout type clothing and athletic shoes. You will need to bring a duty belt (empty holster - no guns or ammo) and a bullet-proof vest if you have one.
The testing date will be Friday, August 13, 2010 at 08:00 a.m. The test will be held at Hillcrest High School 7350 South 900 East, Midvale, Utah 84047 phone 256-5400. Meet in the parking lot near the football field. You must bring your valid Utah driver’s license. If you are not LEO (Level II) certified or you neglect to bring your driver’s license you will be ineligible to take the test. You will be notified directly after your physical fitness test if you have passed. Only applicants passing the test will be eligible to pass on to the interview phase.
Interview Board
Applicants passing the physical fitness testing will be notified of the date and time of their interview either by phone, by mail or both. Again, the interview process is a series of questions scored by an interview board. The applicants will be ranked in order of their scores. Applicants must pass the interview process with a score of 75% or higher.
Additional Testing
When an applicant has passed on to take additional tests, they will be notified when and where to appear for tests.
This information sheet should contain all of the necessary information needed for applicants to complete the testing process. If you find that you do have unanswered questions you may call me at 256-2502.
